Matrices of multiple paper layers or of special card, are coated with a silicone emulsion in water contg. a swelling agent, esp. an alginate. The amt. of swelling agent in the emulsion is 0.3-3 wt. %. Pref. the mixt. contains 0.8-1.2 wt. % alginate, pref. 'Henkel 878' (RTM). Viscosity of the swelling agent is pref. 2000, esp. 5000. Proportions pref. are 300-5000 g silicone emulsion, 500-700 g dist. water and 6-12 g alginate. In an example, a coating or impregnating soln. consists of 400 g silicone emulsion, 600 g dist. water and 9 g alginate.
