The network consists of an input multiplexer, a microprocessor control and an output multiplexer all under the control of a selectable programme controller operates in a number of cycles and subcycles, in which 48 channels of input binary data, buffered by optical couplers are sampled, operated upon, and output through optical couplers on a number of buffered output binary channels. The central control unit contains an input store output store storage interface network and groups of gates which perform the specified logical operations on the input data. A mains frequency interrupt clock pulse generator and microprocessor complete the central control unit. The logic and timing of the central control unit, programme store unit and a failsafe backing storage unit are described in some detail.
