An automatic liquid metering device meters out a predetermined volume V0 of liquid defined by the capacity of a vessel (2) filled to a level N0 with the liquid. The vessel has a capacity greater than V0 and has an open portion in its upper part which is narrow and in which a channel (8) runs at a level corresponding to N0. This channel can be connected to a supply reservoir (14') and enables the vessel (2) to be refilled to a level higher than N0. It also enables the liquid in the vessel above the level N0 to be automatically discharged. The vessel has another channel or pipe (6) on its lower part. This enables the liquid to be discharged and it is provided with a stop tap (7). The upper channel may take the form of a siphon, the end which runs into the vessel being in the form of a nozzle (8a).
