The mechanism operates with low initial pressures and the final high pressures are applied shortly before the assembly reaches the operating position. A main cylinder has provided with inlet and outlet ports (12, 13) for connection to a hydraulic supply. The main piston (15) has seals (16) and the piston rod extends away from the cylinder head. The piston rod is hollow and forms a cylinder contg. an auxiliary piston which has a central channel and is sealed-off against the cylinder. The piston has radial openings (29).
