1483756 Shoes &c LAMBERT HOWARTH & SONS Ltd 20 June 1975 [29 June 1974 9 May 1975 2 April 1975] 28987/74 19560/75 and 13417/75 Heading A3B A veldt shoe is manufactured by softening the heel portion of an upper by pre-heating and placing it on a heel mould 2 having a projecting flange 5, to form a flange on the heel portion, cooling the upper by passing refrigerant through mould 2 via pipes 3, 4 to 'set' the flange, removing the upper and placing on a last on which is positioned an insole 6 bigger than for the shoe size to be manufactured, turning the free edge of the upper over the insole and adhering it thereto, clamping the upper, insole and turned over edge of the upper by means of clamp plate 10a and wiping plates 10, stitching through the insole sandwiched between both layers of the upper to form a welt and adhesively attaching an outer sole and heel unit 12. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the flange on the upper is formed by placing the preheated upper 1 on a mould portion 2b having affixed thereto an oversize insole 6' and 'setting' the flange as above.
