[Class 17 (ii).] Methods of lasting.-A boot or shoe upper A is drawn over a bare last B without insole or sole of any kind and the edge is temporarily fixed to the last by tacks D. A narrow strip C of leather, canvas, or other material is then secured around the sides of the last at the forepart by bracing tacks E and the lasting tacks withdrawn. The strip C may be perforated at regular intervals and may be left attached to the shoe. The shoe may then be finished in any desired manner, as machinesewn, welted, or Veldtschoon by appropriately securing the lasted edge b of the upper.
