1455476 Lubricating oils TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 19 April 1974 [21 May 1973] 17210/74 Heading C5E Mineral lubricating oil compositions comprise 0À01-5 wt. per cent of an overbased alkaline earth metal compound and, as a rust inhibitor, a trialkanolamine of the Formula I wherein R is a C 1-24 hydrocarbyl radical, RSP1/SP, Z and Y represent hydrogen or a C 1-10 hydrocarbyl radical and x is 0 or 1. 0À01-1À5 wt. per cent trialkanolamine is incorporated in paraffinic or naphthenic oils of SVS viscosity 50-500 at 210‹ F. The trialkanolamine can be a mixture prepared by reacting diethanolamine with a C 15-18 or C 11-14 straight chain alpha olefin epoxide mixture, with 1,2-epoxyoctane or with 1,2-epoxybutane. The compositions produced in examples comprise the trialkanolamine and calcium carbonate overbased calcium sulphonate, zinc di-C 6-7 alkyl dithiophosphate, mono- (#-hydroxyethyl) alkane thiophosphonate, a methacrylate copolymer, and diethyl mono- and di-tert.-octyldiphenylamine.
