The coil former for relays and similar components has clearance around its hole for the core (1) to avoid directly transferring forces from one to the other. The coil former flange (3) is prevented from moving axially away from the winding space by means of a retention disc (2). This disc has a hole to allow the core to pass through without clearance and is fixed to the flange. The flange is prevented from moving axially towards the winding space by means of a collar (4) around the core, which is seated in a circular recess in the flange on the opposite side of the retention disc.
