The switching and control device has a bimetal and a snap action switch. The continuous, temp. dependent deflection of the middle region of the bimetal (32) is transmitted to the actuating point (35) of the snap-action switch (15), while at least two ends of the bimetal element are firmly supported. Pref. the bimetal element may have a dished preshape. If the bimetal element is triangular, its corners are rounded. It may have a central aperture guiding a pressure element (34). Typically, the bimetal element is parallel to the spring (16) of the snap-action switch and actuates the latter via the pressure element. The snap-action switch may have two independent contacts (20, 22).
