The mechanism feeds sheet material to a processing machine, having a series of rollers (20) rotating in the travel direction of the sheets (LB). The rollers act as the feed bed accommodating a stack (B) of sheets, and are mounted one behind the other in the direction in which the sheets are delivered to the machine. The sheets are held down by suction from a vacuum source and exerted via the spaces between the rollers on the lowermost sheet in the stack. Feed devices thrust the lowermost sheet towards the machine (16). The rollers can have holders for the sheets in a row of strip-type sections. The feed devices are mounted alternately in strip sections between the rollers.
