Pipe end closure cap - has tight fitting parallel shoulder preventing fouling of pipe and flared part welded to pipe

The pipe end closing cap allows access to the pipe by sawing off a certain piece of the pipe, without the danger that swarf might enter the pipe. The cap is tapered with a stepped-down taper (14) and bottom (16). The open end has a section (18) which is parallel with the pipe inside wall. This section is followed by and outwardly flared end by which the cap is welded onto the pipe end. If it becomes later necessary to open up the pipe end, the sawing-off is carried out halfway across the parallel section of the cap, so that part of this section still remains fitting closely with the pipe end preventing ingress of impurities into the pipe. The cap then is removed by using pliers on the extrusion (28) on the bottom surface of the cap.
