A coin tester for use in an automatic vending machine has a normal rotating coin tester for diameter and thickness, plus a device to test weight and magnetic properties. It is esp. for machines selling cheap jewellery and toys, which show a partic. high rate of receipt of iron or plastic discs. A front plate (1) is provided with a coin channel fitted with ribs. A permanent magnet (8) is let into the front plate near the coin return element (6), with a groove to hold the adjusting element. The coins pass along this channel to the normal dia./weight test unit, and any not of correct weight and magnetic state are rejected before they can reach the test unit proper.
