The coin testing machine has a coin entry channel, and a number of test units each designed to asses a specific quality, such as electrical conductivity and/or elasticity of the material, and/or thickness, and/or diameter of the coins. A test criterion is adopted in each appropriate case so that the coins may be divided into acceptable and unacceptable groups. The frictional features of the coins (16, 18) influence a friction brake (46) with a test element (48) with a round support peg (50) which is mounted at right angles to the travel path (10) of the coins. A spring control unit (52) is included in the assembly and a separation cylinder (32) is situated in the lower section of the path to distribute the coins.
