A pouring hole for a casting vessel or continuous casting equipment has a metal casing supporting a fireproof lining with a hole at the pouring position with a fireproof ring at the centre, enclosing an insert with a funnel shaped hole through it. Over the top is an exchangeable plate with a hole through it large enough to clear the ram in th case of continuous casting equipment. Between the plate and the insert is a sloping ring of insulating material. Between the ring and the lining is another ring of the same material. This material disintegrates after pouring. Between these rings and the cover plate is a space which is filled with sand.
