1507127 Floating toys MASUDAYA TOY CO Ltd 6 May 1976 [19 Aug 1975] 18644/76 Heading A6S A floating toy resembling a larger fish or animal, e.g. a tunny fish, a hippopotamus or a pelican, is powered by a spring motor and is connected by a string to a smaller fish which is wound in by the motor and apparently swallowed by the larger fish, &c. In one form, a toy tunny fish 1. Figs. 1. 3, 4, has a spring motor 13, Fig. 3, driving through gearing 25, &c. to an eccentric cam 26 (see also Fig. 4) oscillated in a slot 29 in a lever 27 pivoted at 28 to a frame 22. A pin-and-slot connection 20, 30 between the lever 27 and the end of the tunny fish tail 5, pivoted at 21, causes the tail to wag back-and-forth and propel the tunny fish 1 forwards. At the same time, the spring motor 13 rotates a reel 14 to wind-in a string 6 connected to the tail of a small fish 2. The upper jaw 4 of the tunny fish 1 is journalled by pivots 10 to its body, so that finally the small fish 2 is pulled inside the mouth of the tunny fish and appears to be swallowed. A float 15, Fig. 3, is located beside the spring motor. In another embodiment, the larger toy fish or animal simulates a hippopotamus, Figs. 5, 6, having front and rear legs 31, 32 mounted on pivots 16, 28 to swing back-and-forth and having webs 40 to paddle the water in which it floats. The spring motor drives an eccentric pin 35 sliding in a slot 37 in an extension from the front legs 31, and a cam 26 sliding in a slot 39 along an extension of the rear legs 32. In another form, the larger toy fish or animal simulates a pelican, Fig. 7, having webbed feet or paddles at the ends of a unitary leg 34 swung back-and-forth by the spring motor.
