A wall covering comprises a layer of foamed polycarbodiimide or other cellular synthetic material having one surface which is to be stuck with adhesive to a wall and is slightly friable, deformable and mouldable, the other surface of said layer having a smooth, calendered and elastic skin. The wall covering is made by compressing for at least 45 sec. a sheet of the cellular material between a heated plate and a plate at ambient temperature; the heated plate causes softening or partial melting of the material to produce the elastic skin, and it may at the same time serve for melting an intermediate fusible film for securing an outer decorative web or foil to the said skin.
