This modification to the established design, using two work tables which alternately move under the work head so that the free table can be loaded comprises an arrangement permitting relative movement between the tool and the workpiece in order to give access to the workpiece. For example the upper assembly (1) containing the tool for inserting the insulation into a stator or rotor (9) may be arranged to swing about a vertical or horizontal axis to give access to the table (3) of the lower assembly. Alternatively the whole upper assembly may be raised vertically to allow removal of the workpiece. The principle is applicable to machines for both small and large cores.
