A support frame for storing long fuel elements of polygonal cross-section is intended esp. for light water reactor elements. Each fuel element is surrounded by a thin boron steel casing, fixed at the top to the support frame or grating and located at the bottom on the bottom plate of the grating by means of a locating assembly. The locating assembly is composed of two relatively movable parts the upper part serving as an adjustable support surface for the fuel element contained inside the casing. Pref. the upper part of the locating assembly is adjustable relative to the lower part by three uniformly spaced adjusting screws and three corresp. clamping screws holding the two parts together. The casing surrounds the fuel element extremely closely with only a small clearance and is accurately located by means of the locating assembly so as not to exert any lateral forces upon the fuel element.
