Adjustable cone pulley for a v-belt drive

A variable diameter V-groove pulley has a flange which connected with a shaft and a second flange which is keyed to and slidable along the shaft. A member is connected to flange and has radial openings in which balls can slide. The balls are retained by a cup shaped member which is secured to the shaft by a screwed sleeve. The cup has a retaining lip and a ramp. Driving thrust exerted by the belt is balanced by centrifugal force of the balls whereby the position of the flange is self regulating.
