Medicinal 2-benzylidene-3-benzofuranones of the formula IMAGE in which: R1 is hydrogen, hydroxy, carboxymethoxy, 2-carboxyethoxy or nitro; R2 is hydrogen, hydroxy, carboxymethoxy, 2-carboxyethoxy, nitro or carboxy; R3 is hydrogen, hydroxy, carboxymethoxy, 2-carboxyethoxy, 1-carboxyethoxy, nitro, carboxy, or dimethylamino; or R1 and R2 or R2 and R3 are together -CH = CH-CH = CH-, provided that R1, R2 and R3 are not simultaneously hydrogen, and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts have analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic activities, and activity as inhibitors of platelet aggregation.
