摘要
Satd. chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (I) are stabilised against the known metal induced decomposition which occurs during mfr. involving distn. or vapourisation by incorporation of a polyether of formula R-(OC(R1)HCH2)n-OH (II), into the liq. and/or vapour of (I). In the formula, R is H or 1-4C alkyl; R1 is H or Me; and n is 2-20. Addn. of (II) prevents the metal induced decomposition of (I), and hence the subsequent fouling of equipment (esp. distn. columns). The method is esp. useful with (I) contg. 2C atmos, esp. in the distn. and recovery (as overhead prod.) or 1,1,1-trichloroethane in the presence of metals (and oxides and salts) and other chlorinated ethanes. In an example, addn. of diethylene glycol monomethyl ether at 100 ppm. reduced net vinylidene chloride content from 5000 ppm. to 20-25 ppm. in 1,1,1-trichloroethane refluxing in contact with metal rings and 14 ppm. FeCl3.
