The invention applies to cheque cards and similar documents which carry the holder's signature and run the risk of being forged. The holder's signature is photographed using a special distorting lens system and the distorted picture of the signature is reproduced on the cheque card. When a cheque is presented with the cheque card, the signature on the cheque card is viewed through the same sort of lens system as the one used to take the photograph. The picture seen through the lens system corrects the signature to its original form and can then be compared with the signature on the cheque.
