The device is used to couple a source of light radiation to a bundle of optical fibres. It comprises a single fibre (2) one end of which is terminated by a polished cross -section (C) coupled optically to the corresponding end of the fibre optic bundle (1). The other end of the single fibre (2) is terminated by a spherical element (3) whose refractive index (n1) is the same as that of the fibre itself. This spherical element is placed appropriately w.r.t. the light source (4). The single fibres useful diameter (280) is the same as that of the fibre-optic bundle. The diameter (2B) of the spherical element (3) is slightly greater than that of the single fibre (2). The light source is positioned at a known distance (D) in front of the spherical element (3). The single fibre may be optically coupled to the fibre bundle by simple contact or through a solid, liquid or gaseous film.
