Organic waste of both animal and vegetable origin is fermented to produce a natural, combustible gas, pref. methane. The fermentation is associated with utilisation of solar energy in vegetable form as well as that collected directly by solar radiation panels. The organic waste pref. includes all fermentable rubbish, faecal waste, sewage water etc. produced in the dwelling as well as waste from quick-growing vegetable crops cultivated on roof gardens and surrounding, ground level areas. Solar energy is pref. used to warm the fermenting vessel. Solar energy and fermented organic waste are used to satisfy the power and heat requirement of a community. No cable or pipe connections to external energy supply stations and sewage disposal works are required.
