In the bottom part of a reservoir (a) filled with a pressurised liq. is a cylinder contg. a piston rod (b) actuated by compressed gas; and rod (b) also forms the piston in a braking tube (c). Tube (c) is connected via choke holes (c1) to reservoir (a); and the liq. can flow through holes (c1); and reservoir (a) has a liq. inlet and outlet in its upper part. Above the reservoir (a) is a device (d) creating a pressure in the liq. and in the entire hydraulic system during the end phase of the braking process. The moving masses include the tube blank being rolled and the pilger mandrel; and the invention permits an increase in rolling speeds obtd. by increasing the r.p.m. of the pilger rolls, while increasing the life of the feeder.
