The device is for construction of a trench in which a pipeline or cable is to be buried, in the bed of a body of water or waterway, and esp. at the bottom of the sea. This involves a flushing arm (6), fitted to the machine so as to swivel. It may be initially loaded to a predetermined extent, to hold it in the desired position during normal operation, and it can be spring-pressed into the operative position, and/or hydraulically moved. There may be two arms, arranged in a 'V' shape. The arm, or arms, can carry a number of nozzles (9), with a movable shield (10) for outlet adjustment. This prevents damage to the machine for jutting rocks or other obstacles.
