The winding machine mandrel (1) has a flange (4) which forms an abutment for the spools (5), (5a) etc. which are mounted on the diameter (3). The spools are secured by the chuck (6) which has an outer sleeve (7) with an L shaped slot (11), for a pin (10) which fits in a hole (9) in the inner part of the chuck (6). The inner part (6) has an internal thread (8) which screws onto the threaded portion (2) of the mandrel (1). The inner portion (6) is provided with spanner flats (13) for clamping the spools (5), (5a) etc. in the clutch. The outer portion (7) has spanner flats (12) for releasing the clutch by rotating it until the axial part of the L shaped slot is aligned with the pin (10).
