The box for supporting a butane or propane cylinder includes a weighing mechanism indicating the amount of gas remaining in the cylinder. Pillars (8,9) at the four corners of the box support two plates (10,11) on knife edges. The plates have arms (12,14) projecting downwards engaging slots in a sliding element (13). In the centre of the sliding element is a slot along the longest edge of which is a rack (23). This engages a pinion (24) attached to a spindle on which a pointer (26) is mounted. The pointer moves across a dial (55) with a number of regions (56a,b,c) indicating the amount of gas remaining in the cylinder. Adjustments (41,19) are provided for setting the pointer with a full gas cylinder so that it reads correctly.
