Process for the production of catalysts and reducing agents with increased activity and longevity

The activity and longevity of a metallic catalyst are increased by alloying into the catalyst at least one further metal which has the following two properties: (1) it segregates at the surface to form small catalyst particles, (2) it protects the catalyst particles from poisoning by entering a stable chemical bond with the poisoning materials.
