A respiratory device comprising a fleece-like material, pref. ceramic fibres, is reinforced with soda lime, active carbon dust, copper and/or manganese dioxide dust as adsorption material. These materials are pref. deposited on a support material made of expanded calcium-aluminium silicate. The device is for use e.g. as a face mask in catastrophic fires and/or smog weather conditions and can form part of a fire protection escape package also contg. gloves.
