摘要

To overcome the today's energy challenge highly efficient and inexpensive storage systems are required. The conversion of electrical energy from renewable sources to hydrogen as storage molecule, with a high energy density, is performed with electrodes that contain nowadays expensive and non-abundant materials like platinum, iridium or ruthenium oxides. Replacement by abundant, low cost and environmental friendly alternatives like manganese oxides is needed. Suitable high activities while maintaining the catalysts stability in the harsh oxidizing conditions during the water splitting process are the major challenges.
