A volume metering device has a metering container, whose base and casing can move relative to each other and a metering pipe in the top open container can move relative to the container base and is selectively spaced from the container base on a concertina filler pipe. This pipe, with the metering pipe forms a drop pipe of adjustable length with two aligned breaks at its top end. A cut-off device opens and closes a break in the underside of the feed pipe by means of cut-off sheath on the pipe which can move between an opening and a closing end position. The cut-off sheath (108) is fixed to the top end (140) of the filler pipe (130) and extends outside this over an axial length, which corresponds to the inner diameter of the filler pipe (130) measured at the lowest casing line of the cut-off sheath (108).
