The equipment locates metal parts in biological tissue, e.g. bones. It comprises a hand-held measuring head (1), which when passed over the body emits a signal altering as it approaches metal. This electrical signal is fed to a measuring circui with indicator (2) to which the head is connected. The heat incorporates an oscillator coil encoding a ferrite rod (3) and connected to a free ranging oscillator in the measuring circuit. The bar protrudes beyond the coil (4) at the forward end in the form of a conical measuring tip (5).
