Operation of internal combustion engines on hydrogen drawn from a high temp. hydride storage material, e.g. Mg or its alloys, which is heated partly by heat from the engine and partly by a separate heating system. The large amount of low temp. hydride usually employed can be eliminated, and the higher storage capacity of the high temp. material used to reduce size and wt. of the reservoir or increase capacity.
