Sound absorbing panel for road vehicle - has bituminous layer and felt layer enclosing air space of 15 to 30 mm thick

The sound absorbing and isolating panel is used to limit the propagation of vibrations. It is used in road vehicles whose engines generate vibration of the bodywork. The sound panel is fitted to a part of the vehicle body (1) which has a region (2) of relatively large vibration amplitude and a band (5) of low vibration amplitude. The panel has a layer (8) of bitumous material (14) and a layer (15) of fibrous material. It has a gasket (12) making contact with the body (1). The panel is attached to the body (1) by clips (18) or screws. A layer of air (11) is enclosed by the inside face (9) of the body (1) and the inside face (10) of the panel.
