PREVENTIVE AND REMEDY FOR COMPLICATING DISEASE OF DIABETES MELLITUS

PURPOSE:A drug having the effect of preventing and remedying a complicating disease of diabetes mellitus, comprising a N-mercaptoacylamino acid or its derivative as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A preventive and remedy for a complicating disease of deabetes mellitus (e.g., deabetic cataract, deabetic retinopathy, deabetic nephropathy, deabetic neuropathy, etc.) comprising a N-mercaptoacylamino acid shown by the formula (Q1 and Q2 are S, O, or methylene with the proviso that they are not S or O simultaneously; Y is 1-3C alkylene; R1 is H, lower alkyl, or higher alkyl; R2 is R1 or R1-(0-, etc.; R3 is H or lower alkyl, etc.; n is 1 or 2) and its reactive derivative. A dose is 1-500mg daily, preferably 10-1,000mg and the preventive and remedy is administered one or several times a day. (4R)-3-(S-benzoylmecrcaptoacetyl)-4-thiazolidinecarboxylic acid, etc. may be cited as the compound shown by the formula I.
