FABRICATION OF OPTICAL FIBERS WITHIMPROVED CROSS SECTIONAL CIRCULARITYAbstract of the DisclosureOptical fibers are produced with improved crosssectional circularity. In the course of the fabricationprocess, the tubular preform from which the fibers aredrawn, is collapsed under positive internal pressure. Thisremoves most cross sectional noncircularities that may havedeveloped during fabrication of the preform, and alsoensures the collapse of the preform to a structure withcircular cross section.
