LIGHTWEIGHT MODULAR, TRUSS-DECKBRIDGE SYSTEMAbstract of the DisclosureA modular bridge system constructed ofparallel, side-by-side bridge modules con-structed of components made from large pitch anddepth corrugated plate. Each module has anupper chord plate, which ultimately defines thecorresponding part of the bridge deck, a spacedapart, parallel lower chord plate and an inter-mediate, sinusoidal support structure defined bywebs which have a width substantially equal tothe width of the chord plates so as to define acontinuous lateral support for the upper chordplates at intermediate points over the lengththereof. Load distributing ribs secured to theunderside of the chord plates only are placed atunsupported portions of the upper chord platesbetween attachment points for the webs and havea width substantially equal to the combinedwidth of all modules to tie the modules to eachother and to distribute vehicular (point) loadsover a relatively wide lateral extent of thechord plates. Also disclosed is a high strengthmounting of lateral guard rails for the bridge,a method for constructing and erecting themodules, and the incorporation of the modules inmore intricate bridge structures such as arch-type bridges.
