Ion exchange resins in combination with neutral salts are used as ice, snow, rime and hail dispersing agents on traffic ways, esp. roads. The resin holds the salt, but being insoluble itself, cannot dissolve in the thawed H2O and drain away. Less salt is required for dispersal, with reduced corrosion hazard and environmental pollution. The dispersing salt, ctg. Na+, Cl- or also Ca++, Mg++, Fe++, Cu++, Ni++, complexions, NO3- or PO43- is mixed with the resin, pref. in the form of a powder or granulates in the spherical condition. The resins after use can be collected (e.g. at the water works) and used as fertilisers (ctg. NO3-, PO43-) or to remove toxic metal cations in other processes (e.g. ctg. K+, NH4+).
