The milking unit (1) is connected to a device (3) indicating the milk flow through a milk pipe (2). As soon as the quantity of milk passing through the device (3) drops below a set amount per unit time, electrodes (4) regulate the pulsator (6) to a lower frequency of pulsation by means of a control mechanism (5). The frequency of pulsations is lowered to give about five pulsations per minute. At the beginning of milking, the frequency of pulsations of roughly five pulsations per minute increases progressively until it reaches the normal milking frequency. A selector switch regulates the reduction in pulsation frequency.
