The inclination w.r.t. the horizontal is measured in a vertical plane. Damping is provided to allow the instrument to be used on a vehicle such as a bicycle to measure upwards or downwards slop irrespective of the lateral angle. A transparent tube with a constant curvature is closed by stoppers at each end. The tube contains a float and is completely filled with an opaque liq. The dia. of the float is slightly less than the internal dia. of the tube. A hole through the float ensures that an index marker is always orientated towards the top to be visible against a graduated scale. The lower part of the tube is bedded onto a block to which flexible clips are attached to permit mounting on a bicycle frame.
