Polypropylene prepn. in presence of catalyst - comprising titanium tri:chloride di:ethyl aluminium chloride and bromide and ethyl aluminium di:chloride

In the prepn. of polypropylene by polymerising propylene at 50-80 deg.C and 2-21 atmospheres in a hydrocarbon diluent (I) in the presence of a catalyst comprising TiCl3, AlEt2Q and AlEt2Br, the catalyst additionally contains 0.5-4.0 wt.% (w.r.t. Al cpds.) AlEtCl2 and (I) is a satd. hydrocarbon with a b.pt. of 65-110 deg.C contg. 0.01-0.08 wt.% mixt. of 4-methyl-1-pentene, 4-methyl 2-pentene, hexanes, heptanes and monomers. The polypropylene has increased isotacticity, a more even melt flow and improved quality. The prod. can be used in fibres, textiles, pulling ropes, belts, carpets, fish nets, knit ware . etc.
