NEW MATERIAL:Carcinostatic substance TF-240 or its salt having the following characteristics; light gray to light brown powder; active to inhibit the proliferation of cells of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma of mouse, Ehrlich nodal carcinoma, sarcoma 180 cancer and B-16 melanoma cancer; exhibits immuno-activating activity; insoluble in methanol, acetone, benzene, ethyl acetate, etc.; exhibits no definite melting point and decomposes at 200-215 deg.C; positive to Molish reaction, phenol sulfuric acid reaction, etc.; elemental analysis, C 35-38%, H 4-5%, N 12-14%, etc. USE:Carcinostatic agent. PROCESS:Bacerial strain belonging to Fusobacterium genus, e.g. Fusobacterium nucleatum TF-031 (FERM-P No.5077, ATCC-31,647), etc. is cultured under anaerobic conditions, pref. at 7.2-8.2pH and 36-38 deg.C for 1-4 days.
