A process for preparing o- (2,6-dichloroanilino) phenylacetic acid

An improved process for preparing 0-(2,6-dichloroanilino) phenylacetic acid, which comprises reacting 0-chlorophenylacetic acid or an alkali metal salt thereof with 2,6-dichloroaniline in the presence of a copper compound or a copper dust and a base in a polar solvent with addition of an alkali metal halide accelerator and distilling the solvent out of the reaction system during progress of the reaction, or which comprises reacting 0-chlorophenylacetic acid or an alkali metal salt thereof with 2,6-dichloroaniline in the presence of a base and 0.5 mole or more, per mole of 0-chlorophenylacetic acid, of a copper salt and/or a copper dust in a polar solvent with addition of an alkali metal halide accelerator. The product has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects.
