Abstract of the DisclosureThe present invention relates to novel herbidicallyactive 4-(p-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-.alpha.-phenoxypropionic acicalkoxyalkyl amides, processes for their manufacture and alsoherbicidal compositions which contain them. The preferredutility of the novel compounds is the selective control ofmonocotyledonous weeds.The novel compounds have the general formula I (I)wherein "alkylene" represents a straight or branched sa-turated hydrocarbon chain of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R re-presents an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.The novel compounds are obtained by reacting ahalide or lower alkyl ester of 4-(p-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-a-phenoxypropionic acid with an alkoxyalkyl amineH2N-alkylene-O-Ror by reacting a hydroxydiphenyl etherwherein Y is hydrogen or a cation, with an a-halopropionicacid alkoxyalkl amide of the formulain the presence of an acid acceptor.Preferred compounds of the formuls I are N-(2-me-thoxy)-ethylamide and N-(3-methoxy)-propyl-(2)-amide.
