The auxiliary switch has a coupling element (14) between the load protection switch and a contact-operating slider (10) located in the centre of the auxiliary switch housing. The coupling element (149 fits into an extension (15) of the auxiliary switch housing at one side, which is symmetrical to the longitudinal axis of the slider (10) and which can be selectively fitted to the opposite side of the latter. Pref. the coupling element (14) is pref. snap-fitted to the slider (10) and is formed as a lever, with a short lever arm engaging the slider (10) and a long lever arm acted on by the load protection switch, the lever pivoting about a shoulder (14a) fitting into a notch (15a) in the side edge of the extension (15).
