Fixing connections to wound capacitors having aluminium electrodes - by immersing ends in organic soln. contg. e.g. silver, drying and attaching leads by resistance welding
Method of fixing connections on electronic components of which at least two opposite end faces of each component each include at least one zone of Al, comprises (a) immersion of the Al part of one of the end faces of each component in a soln. including a substance adherent to Al and weldable, forming a first coating of the Al part. This is followed by (b) a second immersion, of the Al part of the other end of each component forming a second coat on the other Al zone; and (c) welding connections to the coatings on the two ends of the component. The substance adherent to Al and weldable is pref. Ag. The method is used esp. for attaching leads to the ends of wound capacitors of which the electrodes are Al strip. The method overcomes the problem that Al cannot readily be welded, and utilises less expensive equipment than metal spraying and does not cause short circuiting as occurs in prior art.
