The mechanism is for sorting longitudinal agricultural products by length and shape. It comprises a loading section (2) with upwardly inclined endless belt (3) and a further section (4) for moving and longitudinally aligning the products. A sorting section (5) has successive sorting troughs (11). The aligning section comprises a vibrator plate or a belt with aligning discs or parallel belts e.g. combined with aligning discs or pins. The sorting units each comprise a driven endless belt (7) which passes over a horizontal plate (8). The horizontal spacing (20-23) between successive plates increase in the transport direction such that products of greater length than this spacing are passed to the next plate, the shorter products being discharged into the respective troughs (11).
