ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe present invention relates to optically active1,2-bis-(diphenyl-phosphino) compounds having the general formulawherein Ph represents a phenyl radical and R represents a straight-chain or branched alkyl radical containing 2 to 20 carbon atomsor a benzyl radical. Compounds wherein R represents an isopropylor a benzyl radical are particularly preferred. These compoundsmay serve as chiral ligands in noble metal complexes, particularlyin rhodium complexes, which can be used as catalysts for thehomogeneous asymmetric hydrogenation of pro-chiral unsaturatedcompounds.
