Metal container, in particular for construction of chemical apparatus, comprising an outer jacket and a lining immovably joined thereto and consisting of a metal of the group tantalum, titanium, zirconium, niobium, molybdenum, tungsten, platinum, iridium, palladium, rhodium and silver or of an alloy based on a metal of this group, characterised in that the lining is joined throughout its area to the outer jacket by hot isostatic compression and has a thickness in the range of between 0.005 and 0.6 mm.
